Introducing the Road Safety Guide: A Must-Have Tool for Every Road User

Every year, thousands of lives are lost on our roads many of them avoidable. Behind each number is a person: a parent, a student, a friend. As road users, we all share the responsibility to ensure safety for ourselves and others. That’s why we are proud to introduce the Road Safety Guide Book, a practical and life saving resource developed under the Safe Helmet Initiative.

Why This Guide Was Created

Road traffic crashes are a global public health crisis, claiming over 1.3 million lives annually, according to the World Health Organization. In Uganda alone, recent statistics show a rise in road related deaths and injuries, especially among boda-boda riders, passengers, and pedestrians.

We created this guide to close the gap in knowledge, awareness, and daily practice of road safety. It’s a tool meant to educate, influence behavior, and empower individuals to make better choices on the road.

What’s Inside the Road Safety Guide?

The Road Safety Guide is written in clear, simple language to be accessible for everyone. Whether you’re a driver, rider, pedestrian, or cyclist, this guide has something valuable for you.

Here’s what you’ll find inside:

Traffic Signs & Laws: Understand the rules that govern our roads.

Safe Driving Practices: From night driving to overtaking and speed limits.

Motorcycle & Boda-Boda Safety: Emphasis on helmet use and protective gear.

Child & Passenger Safety: Including seatbelt use and school transport tips.

First Aid & Emergency Response: What to do in case of an accident.

Ugandan Road Statistics: Real data to show the urgency of awareness.
