A preventable loss that inspired a mission to save lives in Uganda
Safe Helmet Initiative was founded after a heartbreaking loss. Martin, a young man and client at a local barbershop, lost his life in a motorcycle crash. His death was sudden and preventable. Seeing the pain his family went through changed everything. It became clear that too many lives are lost on our roads simply because of a lack of awareness and protection.
That moment sparked a mission. Today, Safe Helmet Initiative works to prevent road traffic injuries through community education, promoting helmet use, and supporting those affected by road crashes. Because no family should have to go through that kind of loss.

To save lives by preventing road traffic injuries through;
- Community education using our road safety guide book.
- Advocacy for stronger road safety policies
- Promoting helmet use among riders and passengers.
- Supporting vulnerable victims affected by road crashes.
- Engaging schools, universities, churches, and drivers
A Uganda where every road user is safe, informed, and protected.
What Makes Us Different
- Community-driven approach.
- Focus on practical education.
- Locally developed road safety guide book.
- Targeting high-risk groups (boda riders & passengers)

Much of Safe Helmet Initiative’s unique strength comes from the combined power and commitment of its worldwide members and supporters. In times of crisis, Safe Helmet Initiative can call on hosts of volunteers to support their emergency response. In long-term development, and in Safe Helmet Initiative’s role as a provider of day-to-day love and hope, volunteers also make a crucial contribution.
