Uganda’s roads are changing but too many lives are being lost.
As transport grows across the country, motorcycle use has increased and so have preventable injuries and deaths. At Safe Helmet Initiative, we are working to change this. Through community education, our road safety guide book, and promoting helmet use, we are helping riders, passengers, and communities stay safe on the road. Because every journey should end safely.
Safe Helmet Initiative began with a simple but urgent reality too many lives were being lost on our roads, and many of these deaths could be prevented.
What started as a concern grew into action. We saw riders and passengers traveling without helmets, communities lacking basic road safety knowledge, and families affected by avoidable crashes.
We knew something had to change.
So we began by engaging our community having conversations, sharing knowledge, and raising awareness about road safety. From these early efforts, we developed our Road Safety Guide Book, a practical tool designed to educate and empower people with life-saving information.
Step by step, we started reaching more people riders, students, drivers, and local communities spreading a simple message: safety matters.
Today, Safe Helmet Initiative continues to grow, driven by a clear mission to prevent road traffic injuries and save lives through education, advocacy, and promoting helmet use.
But this is just the beginning.
With the right support and partnerships, we can reach more communities, distribute more helmets, and create lasting change on our roads. Every life lost is one too many and every life saved is a reason to keep going.
